DIY Wall Banner for a Sonic-Themed Birthday Party

Are you planning a Sonic-themed birthday party but struggling to find decorations that fit the theme? Don’t worry—you’re not alone! When my son asked for a Sonic party, I quickly realized that Sonic-themed decorations, especially in Europe, were hard to come by.
So, I rolled up my sleeves, got creative, and made my own! The result? A stunning DIY Sonic wall banner that became the highlight of the party. It was budget-friendly, fun to create, and added a personal touch to the celebration.
In this post, I’ll show you exactly how to make this simple yet impressive Sonic wall banner. Whether you’re an experienced DIYer or just starting, this step-by-step guide will help you create a centrepiece that will make your little one’s party unforgettable!

What You’ll Need:

  • Ruler or drawing lines

  • Pencil

  • 2 large sheets of thick white paper (the biggest size you can find)

  • Blue glitter

  • Gold glitter

  • Silver glitter

  • Wide transparent tape

  • Black marker

  • Acrylic paints

  • Paint brushes

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Create Your Canvas:

Join the two large sheets of paper using the wide tape to form a sturdy base for your banner. This will give you a nice, big surface to work on—perfect for making an eye-catching design.

2. Sketch Your Design:

Don’t worry if you’re not a pro artist—this banner is about simple shapes! Start by sketching two palm trees on each side of the panel. Underneath the trees, draw squares that mimic the iconic checkered pattern from the Sonic game. Start by drawing horizontal lines from top to bottom, leaving equal spaces between them – for example, 9–10 cm. Then, draw vertical lines on the first row to create squares. Shift the vertical lines by half a square on the second row to achieve the brick effect. Continue in the same way until you fill the page. You can add outlines with a marker or shadows to make it look more realistic.

3. Add a Centrepiece:

Draw a big circle in the middle of the banner using a large kitchen plate as a guide. Outline the circle with blue acrylic paint, and while it’s still wet, sprinkle blue glitter on top for a sparkling finish. Write your child’s name and age in bold letters inside the circle with a black marker.

4. Create Sonic’s Rings:

Draw four smaller circles around the centrepiece and colour them with gold glitter to represent Sonic’s famous golden rings.

5. Add Sonic Himself:

Print a high-quality Sonic image on A3 paper (https://www.coloringall.com/coloring-pages/sonic-the-hedgehog/sonic-thumbs-up/), colour it with acrylic paints to make it vibrant, and glue it onto your banner to bring the theme to life!

Why DIY?

DIY decorations like this wall banner are not only budget-friendly but also add a personal touch to your child’s party. Plus, it’s a fun project that lets you unleash your creativity.

Have fun crafting your Sonic masterpiece, and enjoy seeing your little one’s face light up when they see their personalized party decorations!

Happy DIYing! : )
