Gnocchi alla Sorrentina or Gnocchi Sorrento Style Italian Recipe

 

So, we are in Sorrento, talking about Sorrento, and for sure, when we are in Sorrento, we have to taste the famous and delicious Gnocchi Sorrento style. They are On the menus at all restaurants all over the world! Gnocchi Sorrento style is a typical traditional dish from the Campania region. They come from Sorrento, where they also bear their name. Gnocchi Sorrento style has many ancient roots. A rich, but delicious dish that, at the same time, has a cherished content. Sorrento’s gnocchi was invented with very ordinary ingredients in the 1600s in old meth, located in Tasso Square. This deli dish with potato or flour and water gnocchi, cooked and seasoned with tomato sauce, flavored with “fior di latte” or mozzarella, and sprinkled with Parmigiano cheese and basil, all baked for a few minutes in the oven until well toasted and crispy on the top. Ingredients for five servings:

500 ml Tomato Sauce

500g Gnocchi (homemade or from the grocery)

250 g Mozzarella

70g Grated  Parmesan Cheese

Fresh basil

Directions:

  • First of all, we need to prepare the tomato sauce. So here is the recipe for the most delicious tomato sauce.

 

  • If you choose mozzarella for your Gnocchi Sorrento style, it must be well squeezed before using it for the dish; otherwise, the gnocchi will become more liquid. You can remove the mozzarella from the water a day or two before using it.

  • Then boil the gnocchi in salted water. Your gnocchi is ready to be drained as soon as all get to the surface.

  • Then In a baking pan or casserole – or better in a glen pan, put the gnocchi and some of the tomato sauce, and mix all gently.

 

  • Then add the rest of the tomato sauce. Finally, add some mozzarella cut into small pieces, and mix all again.

 

  • At last, Sprinkle with the grated Parmesan and add the rest of the mozzarella and the basil leaves chopped into small pieces.

  • Then splash  the Gnocchi Sorrento style with a fine stream of olive oil. As they say in Italian, “un filo d’olio di olive.”

  • Bake your Gnocchi Sorrento style in a preheated oven at 200°C for 10 minutes.

 

 

 

  • Our Gnocchi Sorrento style is now ready to be enjoyed.

 

  • Serve them hot, accompanied by a glass of fine Italian wine.
